Community Involvement

Marland (aka “MJ”), TeknoGRID’s founder and CEO, grew up in a low-income community in Newark, NJ. His parents imbued him with solid values—integrity, honesty, a strong work ethic, and the importance of contributing to his community. These values have served as guideposts throughout his personal and professional life.

MJ has been doing volunteer work since he was 14, when he routinely mowed lawns, carried groceries, and walked dogs for senior citizens in his neighborhood. That civic mindedness and generosity of spirit has continued into his adult life. He has been actively involved in countless charitable efforts. Following are just a few recent examples:

Spearheaded a project that resulted in feeding one million homeless people across the US

Led efforts to renovate homeless shelters in Newark

Distributed much-needed school supplies to under-resourced elementary school children in Jamaica

Most recently he took on the role of employer sponsor to train individuals for in-demand telecom technician roles that pay a living wage. He recruits trainees from low-income communities of color, providing free training and paid on-the-job training to create opportunities that can change life trajectories.
